2010 Grant Recipients


Grant Summary

In 2010 the Foundation awarded $13.4 million in grants. Grants were made through our Nonprofit Preservation Initiative which, from a granting perspective, is comprised of Endowment Challenge Grants, GivingFirst.org, and distributions from nonprofit charitable funds.

 

The Foundation also makes grants from Donor Advised Funds and the Foundation’s family of discretionary and restricted funds. Last, the Foundation makes grants to Exempla Lutheran Medical Center through its oversight of funds designated for that organization.

 

NONPROFIT PRESERVATION INITIATIVE

Endowment Challenge Grants

The following nonprofit organizations received matching grants totaling nearly $240,000 through their participation in the Endowment Challenge Grant Program that helps ensure their long-term financial stability:

GivingFirst.org  

In 2010 the Foundation processed more than 14,000 donations totaling approximately

$2.5 million for 455 nonprofit organizations. On Colorado Gives Day alone, more than 20,000 donations totaling $8.4 million were received for 529 organizations. These donations were boosted with a $320,000 Incentive Fund bringing the total distributed for Colorado Gives Day to $8.7 million.

 

In addition, the Foundation paid more than $268,000 in bank and credit card processing

fees so that 100% of all gifts made through GivingFirst.org went directly to the participating organizations.

Nonprofit Funds

The Foundation manages nearly 100 endowed and non-endowed funds on behalf of our nonprofit partners. In 2010 the Foundation distributed grants totaling over $450,000 from these funds, comprised of distributions, investment returns, and interest earnings. SELECTED COMMUNITY GRANTS

The Foundation maintains funds to address needs in the community. In 2010, the following community grants were distributed to select

organizations, including:

 

Denver Office of Drug Strategy

$10,000 to support implementation of a strategic plan developed by the Denver Drug Strategy

Commission (DDSC) to address substance abuse education, prevention, intervention, treatment, and evaluation in the metropolitan Denver area.

 

Rocky Mountain Blood and Marrow Transplant Program

$21,700 to provide 38 financial assistance grants to 26 patients receiving care at the Rocky

Mountain Blood and Marrow Transplant Program at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center. These grants helped pay for housing, transportation, and other non-medical related expenses.

 

Seniors’ Resource Center

$35,544 to support Phase I of Seniors’ Resource Center’s capital campaign which will result in a new, state-of-the-art Adult Day & Respite Services building, slated to open in 2011.

 

Education

$10,860 to support a curriculum devoted to

educating students about philanthropy at the

Belmar campus of Young AmeriTowne.

 

YMCA of Metropolitan Denver

$5,000 in support of the 2010 Strong

Kids Campaign.
