GivingFirst.org and Jeffco Action Center on CBS4
Jeffco Action Center (JAC) recently had a chance to reach thousands of people through an interview aired on "Breakfast with Brooke," a CBS4 news show. Mag Strittmatter, executive director, shared her concerns about the increasing numbers of people streaming through their doors as the recession took hold. "We thought, 'Oh, something's coming. Something's happening," she told anchorwoman Brooke Wagner. Highlights of JAC's services followed, emphasizing how they are helping during these troubled times.
JAC received the largest number of donations through GivingFirst.org in 2008. This, and their dedication to supporting self-sufficiency in our community, captured the interest of Wagner.

Elevating Your Organization's Voice
The Foundation kicked off its series of educational seminars for 2009 with an important topic – maximizing public relations efforts. The purpose of the event was to share strategies for telling your organization's story, focusing on public relations and community relations strategies. Jeff Steepleton and Cori Plotkin of the Galloway Group led the session with an overview of PR fundamentals and then bridged into insider tips and group discussions.
"Public relations is a management function that establishes and maintains mutually beneficial relationships between the organization and the audiences with whom its success or failure depends," said Plotkin, as she read a definition she adheres to. "The key is that your relationships should be mutually beneficial," she emphasized.
Strengthening Partners Grants 2009

We are happy to announce that on April 1 we accepted 23 nonprofit partner organizations to receive Strengthening Partners Grants 2009. The grants of up to $5,000 per organization are to be used for consulting services on executive leadership development that will strengthen core organizational systems. Community First Foundation has approved $109,150 for 23 organizations.
Please note that grants will be sent to recipients after a contract with the consultant has been signed and a date for the initial consultation has been determined. When all consulting services have been performed, recipients must complete a final report when grant funds have been spent and no later than December 30, 2009.
Caroline Jackson: Humanitarian at Heart
Caroline Jackson, the Foundation's controller, has been in the nonprofit world for 30 years. That's because she's a humanitarian at heart, she said, adding, "I believe our purpose on earth is to help others who can benefit from the gifts we've been blessed with. At the Foundation we're helping many, many people by supporting nonprofits that do great humanitarian work in our community."
