ePhilanthropy Grows in Denver: 180 GivingFirst Participants Expected by Year’s End
Excitement was in the air at the May 31st GivingFirst Launch Party. Nearly 200 people gathered to celebrate the new online giving tool that was designed to encourage charitable giving in metropolitan Denver. And in its first month live, $117,254 of online donations were directed to 34 nonprofits through the GivingFirst Web site. Combined with a match by LMC Community Foundation, the figure rose to $167,254 in total dollars for these nonprofits in one month. Now that’s something to celebrate!
Seminar Summary:
How to Build a Fund-Raising Board to Bolster Your Endowment
"We must remember that philanthropy is our core business," said Kenneth W. Eggeman, Ph.D., president and CEO of LMC Community Foundation, at the Foundation's May 15 board development seminar. "We need to understand philanthropy, believe in philanthropy and act philanthropically."
Nearly 50 people attended the seminar that was both philosophical and practical. Executive directors, development staff and board members filled the room as they sought advice on how to strengthen the fund-raising ability of their boards. A thoughtful exchange of ideas was shared by Eggeman, Vernon Ritzman, M.D., board chair of the Foundation, and Deborah Dale Brackney, vice president of Mountain States Employers Council.
The Adoption Exchange: Relationships Help Board Fund-Raise
By naming its fund-raising team the "friendship committee," The Adoption Exchange has set the tone for board fund-raising: it's about relationships first. This premise helped the nonprofit develop a board that could bring in the funds that are so critical to their operations.
Dr. Kenneth W. Eggeman: CEO Thrives at Innovative Foundation
Kenneth W. Eggeman, Ph.D., president and CEO of LMC Community Foundation, has quite a sense of humor around the office. But talk to him about the mission and vision of the Foundation and he is immediately reflective, insightful and philosophical. We talked to him about his background, the launch of GivingFirst, and the Foundation's role in the community.
