Jim Collins Event Teaches Hundreds How to Achieve Greatness
Community First Foundation is pleased to announce that nearly 900 people attended Good to Great and the Social Sectors featuring Jim Collins on May 14, 2008 in Denver. The Foundation presented the event to help both nonprofit and for-profit organizations build a framework for greatness. As expressed in Jim Collins' recent work on the social sectors, the critical distinction is not between business practices and social sector practices, but between great and good.
Nonprofit Partners Gain First Access to New-Media Grants

In early summer the Foundation announced its support of Deproduction/Denver Open Media's Denver Metro Nonprofit Production Grants. These grants were designed to help nonprofits leverage new-media technologies to increase their outreach in the community. The announcement included a special opportunity for nonprofit partners (nonprofits that hold a fund at Community First Foundation) to receive first access to the grant funds. We are pleased to announce that Children's Outreach Project, Family Tree, Girl Scouts of Colorado, and Junior Achievement have each been accepted to receive one of the six available grants.
New GivingFirst Incentive Stimulates Online Donations with Matching Grants and Drawings
The Foundation is excited to announce a new incentive, consisting of two parts. The incentive, designed to stimulate online donations and reward fund-raising efforts, will result in $70,000 in grants from the Foundation to the participants.
From October 1 through December 31, the first 24 organizations that receive $5,000 in donations will receive $2,500, a match of $.50 cents per dollar. At the same time, for every ten donations an organization receives, its name will be placed into a drawing.
Sharon Morneau: Grants Administrator Ensures Grants Help Community
"My job gives me a chance to help people and the community. And that's what makes me excited to come to work each day," said Sharon Morneau, the Foundation's grants administrator.
Sharon oversees grant management and regularly interfaces with numerous individuals and nonprofit organizations. She is responsible for initial grant evaluations and processes all of the grants awarded by the Foundation, including Endowment Challenge grants, community grants, and grants from Donor Advised and Donor Designated Funds.
Community First Foundation awarded $1.9 million in 2007 to support the health and well-being of the metropolitan Denver community.
