Community First Foundation announces new program introducing kids to Colorado charities

DENVER (Oct. 25, 2016) – There is a new way for kids in Colorado to learn about non-profits in their community. Presented by Community First Foundation, KidsforColoradoGives.org is a new website that provides youth with a fun, safe and easy way to find and donate to Colorado charities.

The program puts a kid-friendly twist on the popular ColoradoGives.org, which raised more than $38 million for nonprofits in 2015. “We are ecstatic to introduce Colorado’s youth to the joys of charitable giving,” explained Dana Rinderknecht, Director of Online Giving for Community First Foundation, “Kids care about their communities and with KidsforColoradoGives.org, we are giving them a new way to get involved and become lifelong givers.”

The program officially launched on September 15, 2016 with the Kids for ColoradoGives Kick-Off at Denver School of Arts. The event introduced 6th and 7th graders to the program with a nonprofit fair and remarks from Lieutenant Governor Donna Lynne and student ambassador Allison Winn.

“As someone who started my own nonprofit when I was nine, I know how good it feels to give back,” said Allison. “It was so cool to see that same excitement in my fellow students.”

Each student at the event was invited to experience the joy of giving with donation dollars in the amount of $10 from FirstBank. Students have since used their donation dollars to give $2,290 to Colorado nonprofits.

Kids can begin saving today to participate in the state’s largest annual giving movement: Colorado Gives Day, Tuesday, December 6. Last year, more than $28 million was donated on this single day to nearly 2,000 nonprofits. With the participation of kids, Community First Foundation expects this year to be even more successful.
