Community First Foundation Named Outstanding Foundation of the Year by Ability Connection Colorado

ARVADA, CO  (March 25, 2014) –  A top area nonprofit serving people with disabilities and challenges has named Community First Foundation its 2013 Outstanding Foundation of the Year in recognition of its “incredible commitment to the nonprofits in our community.”

“We are so taken with their commitment to this community,” said Judith Ham, president and CEO of Ability Connection Colorado, formerly known as CP of Colorado. “The strong awareness of giving created by Colorado Gives Day extends far beyond that single day. The money raised for our community over the last few years is a remarkable accomplishment!”

Created in 2010 by Community First Foundation, Colorado Gives Day increases philanthropy in the state through online giving. Colorado donors supported 1,442 nonprofit organizations during Colorado Gives Day on Dec. 10, 2013, raising more than $20 million. Colorado Gives Day is powered by ColoradoGives.org, the Foundation’s year-round online giving website.

Ability Connection Colorado is a 68-year-old nonprofit organization serving 40,000 people with disabilities and challenges annually through innovative programs in early education, employment and life-saving family support.

Support from Colorado Gives Day and ColoradoGives.org “helps us provide comprehensive services that have measurable outcomes so that children are school-ready, youth and adults with disabilities and other challenges become gainfully employed and self-sufficient, and families learn to navigate and partner through complex health and education systems,” said Ham.

In addition to raising awareness of nonprofits and helping them secure new donors, Ham praised Community First Foundation’s efforts to help nonprofits build endowments.

Ability Connection Colorado presented the award to Community First Foundation at its Annual Awards Meeting on March 14 in Denver. For more information on Ability Connection Colorado, visit AbilityConnectionColorado.org.

“To receive this award from Ability Connection Colorado is a very high honor, indeed,” said Marla J. Williams, president and CEO of Community First Foundation. “We share it with the thousands of generous donors who make Colorado Gives Day a success and the many nonprofits who, like Ability Connection, serve our community 365 days a year.”
