What is the “Give Where You Live” Video Program?

Colorado nonprofits are participating in #GivingTuesdayNow to support the emergency response and unprecedented needs caused by COVID-19. Community First Foundation is providing you a tool to easily create and share your story with a video appeal. You can create a compelling and professional-looking video in just minutes to tell your donors how they can help and what you need most. Best of all, it’s free to you and easy to use.

Who is doing this and why?

Community First Foundation is providing this tool to help our nonprofit partners increase generosity and power community for positive change. The Storyvine platform is an addition to the #GivingTuesdayNow toolkit we’ve provided to help you promote your organization’s participation in the day of giving.

What is Storyvine?

Storyvine is a video platform that creates high-quality, self-produced videos with an authentic feel. The video you capture will share your personal, or your organization’s, experience responding to the impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic. The app walks you through the filming process, provides coaching instructions and questions to guide your story. Once you record your video through the app, on an iPhone or iPad, the video is saved and is not be made public until you have completed your review.

  4. Follow the prompts in the Storyvine app to start filming your story!
  5. How long does it take to participate? It takes just a few minutes to create a professional looking video you can use to promote your organization.

Storyvine Best Practices
  1. When filming or taking a picture, you can take advantage of your device’s Tap-to Focus feature. Tapping on a specific section of camera view focuses and automatically and can help when capturing content in low-light or bright scenarios.
  2. Video can take up memory on your mobile device, so make sure you have plenty of memory on your phone.
  3. If you are filming someone else, it’s great to communicate openly about when to start, when you’ve stopped and even show them what was captured before moving onto the next step.
  4. Always remember! If you make a mistake when you are being filmed you can always re-film the same clip until you get it right!
  5. If you are filming yourself in a “selfie” mode, always remember that the camera is located at the top of the mobile device. Looking into the top of the device really creates a better eye contact for a selfie video or picture capture.
  6. Storyvine makes it easy for you to be confident in what you are filming! You can always re-take videos if you feel they don’t look good. Storyvine wants you to look great, so just remember when the final video comes in, it will always show you looking better than you thought you’d be.
  7. Using simple products such as selfie sticks and tripod mounts will help keep the camera stable. Using battery-powered LED lights will help fill in shadows, and even light things up in dark situations
  8. If you experience issues with uploading your video be sure to check that you are on a fast Wi-Fi or LTE connection. While most of the videos filmed with Storyvine are short, video is a large file to send across the internet, so using a private Wi-Fi or more than one or two bars of LTE will improve your results.
  9. You can always check the status of the upload once you’ve completed capturing a Storyvine video, by swiping from the right to the left in the app and viewing upload queue.
