Griffith-McVey Family Fund: Giving Through the Generations

Both Julie and Jonathan McVey’s parents impressed upon them the importance of giving. It’s become a way of life they want to pass on to their own two children.

For the McVeys, who have roots in Wheat Ridge and Lakewood, a donor-advised fund has provided an excellent vehicle for the family to engage in philanthropy together. The McVeys chose to establish the fund at Community First Foundation because of its mission and commitment to Jefferson County.

“The Foundation came alongside us as a partner in setting up and administering the fund. It made our giving more streamlined and efficient,” said Julie, a long-time Lakewood estate planning attorney.

The Griffith-McVey Family Fund has supported a variety of local and international nonprofits, including faith-based charities, local news organizations and food banks. Moving forward, though, the McVeys hope their children will take a larger role in decision-making.

“It’s about encouraging them to discover areas of need they are passionate about and finding nonprofits they want to support as they get older,” Julie said.
